The “Minimal Hardware” design solution is a simple yet very practical design that provides the features needed to conduct a successful race event. This design keeps it simple by using race management software running on your PC to control the race timer and display race results. Since it does not use numeric displays, the hardware is kept to a minimum, greatly simplifying the build process and keeping costs down. The download packet has everything you need for your project including a schematic diagram, parts list, design notes, the Arduino software source code and software installation instructions.

- Option 1: Authors' race management software (See images below) - Is supplied free with the download and provides for timer control and display of racer names & car numbers and race results. Racer info is loaded from a user created roster and race results can be viewed/printed at race completion. New updated version just released 6/30/2024.
- Option 2: GrandPrix Race Manager by Lisano Enterprises (http://grandprix-software-central.com) - Must be purchased by the end user. This is the most popular and widely used race manager by Scouting & AWANA groups. Has all the features needed to prepare for and conduct your race event.
- Option 3: DerbyNet Race Manager by Jeff Piazza (http://jeffpiazza.github.io/derbynet/) (Free download) - Network based allowing multiple platforms to log in and access race rosters, race results, standings and more.
- Option 4: Pinewood Master™ Race Management Software by Marc Speth for Apple MAC (http://www.pinewoodmaster.com/index.html).
All "Minimal Hardware" design solution downloads include a schematic diagram, parts list, design notes, software, and user manual w/ software installation instructions.
